Many employers offer annual budgets for professional development, sustainability, or personal growth, which can often be used for coaching. Here’s how you can explore your options.
Good to know: all coaching sessions are confidential. Even if your employer covers the cost, no details about your sessions will be shared without your consent.
1. CHECK WITH YOUR HR MANAGER
Many HR departments have a budget for training or development, and coaching is often covered because it’s a cost-effective and impactful way to grow. Ask your HR manager about available options. If you haven’t used this budget yet, I can support you with a clear proposal to present to your employer during a free introductory session.
Speak with Your Manager or Director
In some cases, your manager or director oversees budgets for personal development. You can discuss the potential benefits of coaching with them, and I can help you prepare a tailored plan or proposal to make your case effectively.
2. REVIEW YOUR LABOR AGREEMENT (CAO)
Many CAOs include budgets or provisions for personal development and coaching. For example:
↳ Municipalities: Employees are entitled to career advice every three years.
↳ Universities: Employees with two or more years of service can access fully-funded career advice.
↳ UMCs: Staff have the right to career advice once every five years, which can be conducted by an internal or external expert.
↳ Career advice via A+O Fund (Central government/Rijk): Employees with over three years of service are eligible for a €1,500 career coaching budget, with an RL-certified career coach, independent of managerial approval.
Check your CAO for specific details, or bring it along to a session to explore how it can support your coaching goals.
3. TAX DEDUCTION FOR ENTREPRENEURS
Coaching expenses for self-employed entrepreneurs can be deducted as business costs. During the free introductory session, let me know if you’d like to receive a business invoice. Need advice on how to claim these expenses? Reach out to your accountant, bookkeeper, or tax advisor.
